A Penny for Your Thoughts — Privacy Policy
Your words are yours. A Penny for Your Thoughts is a private reflective diary. This policy says, in plain language, what we collect, what we never do, and the controls you hold.
What we collect
- Your account basics: name and email address, used to sign you in and keep your diary tied to you.
- Your diary content: the reflections you write, the moods you pick, and any photos or voice notes you choose to add.
- Payment information (Penny Plus only): handled by our payment processor (Stripe on the web; Apple/Google in the app stores). We never see or store your full card number.
What we never do
- We never sell your data.
- We never use your diary content for advertising — not ours, not anyone else's.
- We never read your entries for marketing, and no human reviews your private entries except to fix a technical problem you reported.
- We never share your entries with other users. Anything you share with your circle is only what you explicitly choose to share.
AI processing — on by default, off whenever you say
- Penny is an AI companion: the AI is on by default, because listening, understanding, and reflecting back is what Penny does. We tell you this up front, on your first run — not in fine print.
- You can turn the AI off at any time in My space ("Allow Penny to use your reflections to create personalized AI reflections"). From the moment it's off, your entries are never sent for AI processing, and Penny works as a plain private diary.
- Turning it back on is your choice, the same switch.
- On or off, your entries are never used for advertising and never sold — the AI setting changes only whether Penny can reflect on your entries for you.
Your controls (always free, never paywalled)
- Export: download your full diary at any time from My diary or My space.
- Delete one entry: any entry, any time.
- Delete everything: "Delete all account diary data" in My space removes your diary content permanently.
- Delete your account: available in My space; deleting your account deletes its diary data with it.
Security
Entries are stored per-account and protected by your sign-in. No system is perfect, but your diary is never public by default and never visible to other accounts.
Children
Penny is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects your content, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
